Welcome to Organic Me

Who are we?

Organic me has been established for 5 years. Based on the Scottish border, in a small town of Kelso, we started our organic allotment plot 10 years ago, trying to be self-sufficient, growing our own fruits and vegetables for our own consumption and for our family and neighbours. Then we decided that we should open a café initially with a small shop offering our Honey, homemade cakes, muffins, and scones to shop and go. And the café came about as an opportunity to use our own produce. We also engage with other local organic plot holders to supply us as they are already working with local businesses: restaurants, hotels, and other establishments. The café has been remarkably successful so far.

Why be organic?

Organic farming lowers the risk of environmental pollution and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by severely restricting the use of manufactured chemical fertilisers and pesticides, which come from burning fossil fuels. It is 35% more profitable than conventional farming. Organic farming methods use excellent quality soil and air and help in biodiversity, so more farmers are shifting to organic farming. Organic foods often have more beneficial nutrients, such as antioxidants, than their conventionally grown counterparts and people with allergies to foods, chemicals, or preservatives may find their symptoms lessen or go away when they eat only organic foods. 6 reasons to eat organic foods: avoid chemicals, benefit for more nutrients, enjoy a better taste, avoid GMO, avoid hormones, antibiotics, and drugs in animal products, preserve our ecosystems...

Our Mission

We care about our Carbone footprint. Our main aim is to work with the community and our customers for more sustainable food and farming in Scotland. Farming must change the way it operates, and we need to be farming differently, shopping differently and eating differently to collaborate with climate change. We are aiming for people to start shopping in their local area, to start gardening more and enjoy what they have on their doorstep.

Protect our Planet

There are so many things that we can do to protect the planet and it starts by making slight changes in our daily lives. Coming together will make a significant difference and have a stronger impact. It is critical to protect the environment to reduce the destruction of eco-systems caused by a myriad of anthropogenic activities. Air and water pollution, global warming, smog, acid rain, deforestation, wildfires are just a few of the environmental issues that we are facing right now.
